A Note from Principal Webb

Howdy, Bobcat Families!

  • School Social Work Supports at Birmingham Falls: Brady Varga is our school social worker.  A school social worker is available to identify, assess and explore the barriers that interfere with student achievement. She serves as a supportive resource to students and their families. She is available to help with crisis intervention, parent support, individual or group counseling, court liaisons, home visits, and as a referral source to community resources. Brady works closely with the rest of the student support team in a collaborative approach to best meet the needs of the students in our building. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to her: vargab@fultonschools.org, 404-431-7051
  • BFES Safety Communication: Thank you for the kind words the last two weeks. These have been stressful days for parents and educators alike. Please know if BFES is ever in any danger at all, you will hear from me. This includes an unsubstantiated threat, and alleged threat, or a confirmed threat. If there is something in the community that is causing you to worry, you can call the school or use this SHARE TIP LINE.
  • Thank you, PTO! They organized a terrific lunch for our staff today. Staff not preparing a lunch on a Friday makes for a great start to our morning wake up! Thank you all for supporting the PTO and BFES!
  • To continue receiving Free or Reduced-Price Meal benefits, each household must submit a new application every year. Meal benefits for the 2024-2025 school year will end on September 18, 2024 if the household has not reapplied and are approved by that date. If there is an interruption in benefits or no reapplication is received, the household will be responsible for meal payments until the new application is approved. To ensure uninterrupted benefits, households must complete an online application before September 18, 2024, at School Lunch App (nlappscloud.com), or submit a paper application to the school cafeteria manager by September 16, 2024.
  • 4.5 Weeks grade reports will be available in the parent portal by tomorrow. To access the parent portal, you can find the instructions at this site.

FIT Georgia Physical Assessment

Hello Bobcat Families! As part of your child’s P.E. program, Birmingham Falls is preparing to take part in the FIT Georgia physical fitness assessment. All students in grades K-5 will participate in this assessment, which aligns with the state law requiring schools to measure areas of fitness related to the health of students, including cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

The following FIT Georgia fitness assessments will be used to measure the various areas of health-related fitness:

  • 15M or 20M PACER or 1-mile run (Cardiovascular) – grades 4-5
  • Curl-Up (Abdominal Strength) – grades 4-5
  • Push-Up (Upper Body Strength) – grades 4-5
  • Sit and Reach (Flexibility) – grades 4-5
  • Body Mass Index (Body Composition) – grades 1-5

It's important to note that the assessment does not compare your child to anyone else, nor does it measure skill or athletic performance. Instead, it compares your child to health standards established by researchers as the level of fitness all students should reach to attain health benefits.

Here are a few ways to support your elementary child:

  • Stress the importance of fitness for feeling good
  • Provide equipment that encourages physical activity
  • Help your child identify a time and place for daily physical activity
  • Limit screen time (TV, video games, devices, etc.)
  • Be a role model for your child
  • Teach your child games you enjoyed playing as a child
  • Praise and encourage your child to be active
  • Involve your child in after-school or recreation programs within your community

If you have any questions, please contact the PE department:

Robin Dunn (dunnr@fultonschools.org) or Kris McConnell (mcconnellk@fultonschools.org).
