SUBJECT: Bobcat Weekly News

September 29, 2023
A Note from Principal Webb

Happy Friday Bobcats!

  • Birmingham Falls was honored to receive the Achievement Award for last year’s 3rd grade Georgia Milestones scores. 96.4% of our students scored a proficient level, which was the highest in Fulton County and one of the highest in the state of Georgia. We are so proud of their hard work and the dedication of their teachers!
  • 2nd and 4th Grade will be completing MAP Testing next week. We are looking forward to seeing all that they know! Please remind all children to be silent in the hallways so we offer our testing students the best possible testing environment.
  • PARENT FEEDBACK NEEDED: Our Birmingham Falls School Governance Council (SGC) is asking our parents to help shape our school’s strategic direction moving forward! The SGC is currently building our new Strategic Plan and as part of that process, we are conducting a Bobcat Perception & Needs Study. This study, conducted in multiple parts, will gain valuable input from staff, parents, and students.  We are asking Bobcat parents to help shape our school’s direction by taking a five-minute survey today that will impact the future of BFES. The SGC Parent Feedback Survey can be found here.
  • The Bobcat Boutique will open on the 1st  and 3rd  Friday of each month from 7:10-7:35 a.m.  At the Bobcat Boutique, our students sell school items such as fun pens, pencils, erasers, and fidgets, while working on specific underlying skills with the Occupational and Speech and Language therapists.  Each item ranges in price from .50 to $2.00.  We kindly ask that students who shop at the Bobcat Boutique bring bills no larger than $5.
  • We have seen an increase in the number of students in the clinic with lice. Some things you may do to help are: examine your child for lice or nits using a bright light or sunlight. Lice are crawling insects about the size of a sesame seed, usually found at the nape of the neck and behind the ears. Nits are the eggs, which are laid close to the scalp and attached firmly to the hair shaft near the scalp. Often children will complain of itching. If you find lice or nits, please notify the clinic. Children should not attend school until treatment is completed and there are no active lice or evidence of live lice.
  • The cooler weather is coming. Don’t forget to label sweatshirts, jackets, and water bottles so we may get them right back to your child if they are misplaced.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Each newsletter in September will be sharing the key advantages of consistent attendance and the power of positive school attendance in our school community.

Development of Responsibility: Attending school regularly teaches students the importance of being responsible and accountable for their commitments, setting a foundation for lifelong success.

Reduced Stress: Consistent attendance minimizes the stress of catching up on missed assignments and lessons. Students who attend school regularly tend to experience less anxiety related to schoolwork.

Positive Habits: Regular attendance contributes to the development of positive habits that extend beyond the classroom, such as time management, discipline, and a strong work ethic.

Cultivating a Love for Learning: Being present in the classroom allows students to experience the joy of learning firsthand. This positive experience can lead to a lifelong love for learning and exploration.

Parents play the most important role at Birmingham Falls by reinforcing the value of strong attendance with your family! Learn more HERE!
