SUBJECT: Bobcat Weekly Newsletter

Week of February 21, 2020

A Note from Principal Webb

Dear Birmingham Falls Family,

  • Parents: Next week is the last week to declare your candidacy for School Governance Council. Click here to access the declaration link. We have one opening for the parent representative for a year commitment.
  • Thank you to all that came to Science Night yesterday. There were robots, bee-keepers, reptiles, light and shadows, magic wands, wood working, spooky math magic, and service dogs. I appreciate all families that came as well as the twenty staff members that made it out on the cold rainy night.
  • Hat Day: Thank you to all that wore hats and donated a buck (or more) today! All donations will go to ACE (A Community Effort). This group raises money for parents with children with certain diseases.
  • No School: Friday, March 13th & Monday, March 16th

Don Webb - Principal

Read Across America!

Monday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day. Read Across America is a program to help motivate children to read, bring the joys of reading to students of all ages, and make all children feel valued and welcomed. To celebrate this special day, students may dress up as a character from a book they have read (not just a movie or cartoon they have watched). Students should also bring a copy of their chosen book to school that day. Though Read Across America Day was previously associated only with Dr. Seuss, the program has expanded to a broader literacy initiative. We are looking forward to seeing a variety of characters this year! (Of course, Dr. Seuss characters are certainly still accepted and beloved!)

School Governance Council

We will have an open spot for a parent on our School Governance Council starting in July. The candidate declaration phase has begun and will end Friday, February 26th, at 5pm. Please visit this site to declare candidacy for this position.

We are in need of extra clothing in the clinic for our students. If you can donate any of the following clothing items that your child has grown out of, please consider donating them to the school clinic to be used when students need a change of clothing at school.

Boys Pants: Size 8-14

Book Fair

Embark on an Epic Jungle Adventure!
If you would like to volunteer to help with our Spring Book Fair preparations, please contact Carrie Hilliard at hilliardcd@fultonschools.org, and TinaMarie Baldwin at tinamarie@tmbaldwin.com. There are many projects with which our wonderful BFES volunteers could be a tremendous help! We appreciate all returning and new volunteers that will make this book fair an epic jungle adventure!
FitnessGram

Our school is preparing to take part in the FITNESSGRAM physical fitness assessment. FITNESSGRAM was selected by the Georgia Department of Education because it measures only those areas of fitness related to the health of students. The areas of health related fitness include: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition.

View Flyer for full details.
Kindergarten Round-Up

Howdy Partners!

Birmingham Falls Farm is calling all rising Kindergarten cowgirls & cowboys to a Round-up!

Volunteer Training

One of the hardest things we have to do is to turn away parents that want to help.

Every person who volunteers must first complete the Fulton County Schools mandatory training requirement. All volunteers must complete this training for the current school year, even if completed and registered in previous years.

If you would like to volunteer in the school, please make certain to complete the volunteer training here

This training takes fifteen minutes to complete. Please allow at least forty-eight hours before coming into the school for the first time as a volunteer.

Thank you.
