SUBJECT: Bobcat Weekly Newsletter

Week of October 5, 2020

A Note from Principal Webb

Great Afternoon Falls Family!

  • There is no school on Monday and Tuesday next week.
  • The Face to Face (F2F) Phase begins on Wednesday, October 14th. In this phase, all Fulton County students are able to come to school all day every day. If a student is out because they are sick, they will not need to attend any remote classes. Rest up, drink orange juice, and send your child back after they are feeling better and are fever free for 24 hours. If anyone in your household does test positive for Covid19, please email me directly.
  • Thursday Stories: After taking a bit of a hiatus, Thursday Stories is coming back.  Join Mr. Webb as he reads Frankie Stein. Click here to checkout this week’s story and some of last school year’s stories too.
  • Carpool: Please be patient as we have more students carpooling than ever before. Below are our procedures and tips to help us move the line along safely and efficiently.
    • Arrival:
      • Drop off in the car line begins at 7:10am and ends at 7:40am. There is no supervision for students prior to 7:10am.
      • Pull as far forward as possible so we can quickly tend to six cars at a time.
      • Have your child ready to get out. Mask on, book bag and lunch bag conveniently ready to boogie.
      • Students must exit on the curbside only.
      • If your child is able to exit the car on their own, they may do so. If they need assistance, staff members can help. Temperatures will be randomly taken upon exiting the car.
      • Parents, please remain in the car during drop off.
    • Dismissal:
      • Dismissal begins at 2:20pm.
      • When you pull into the car line, please have your yellow student card visible. Write names of children in sharpie. Need a sign? Just ask us during carpool dismissal.
      • Pull as far forward as possible so we may quickly tend to eight cars at a time.
  • The end of the 1st quarter is today. Just like last May, report cards may be viewed on the parent portal through Infinite Campus on Friday, October 16th. If you have not already set up your Campus Parent account, please click here to set it up or please contact Lisseta Gilmore to assist you. (470) 254-9096.
  • We will be having a virtual bookfair November 9th - November 22nd. More details to come.
  • We still have free breakfast and lunch for all students every day through October. Wednesday curbside food pickup will take place outside the cafeteria from 8:30am-9:30am. Go here for information about adding money to a lunch account or signing up for free and reduced lunch.
  • Enjoy your long weekend and be safe!

Don Webb ~ BFES Principal

Meet Your BFES Administrative Team!

Beth Nation ~ Curriculum Support Teacher

My name is Beth Nation, and I am the Curriculum Support Teacher (CST) at Birmingham Falls Elementary. I moved from a small town in Northern Illinois to Roswell, Georgia in 1984 and graduated from Roswell High School in 1987. I attended University of Georgia and Kennesaw State University, earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and master’s degree in Education.  I have worked for Fulton County Schools for the past 24 years.

At BFES, I assist teachers in implementing the Fulton County curriculum by providing teachers with the necessary materials, resources and strategies to maximize effective classroom instruction. I organize and assist with training teachers how to utilize assessment data to target instruction to meet the needs of each student based on their understanding of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). In addition, I coordinate student placement and assist in testing to determine the most appropriate content level that will support each student’s continuous achievement.

Although I take tremendous pride in being an educator, my greatest accomplishment has been raising our three daughters with my husband Marty, who also works for Fulton County in the IT division.

Sarah Jett ~ Administrative Assistant

My name is Sarah Jett, and I am the new Administrative Assistant at Birmingham Falls! In this role, I serve as a math instructional coach, RTI coordinator, and assistant administrator. You might also recognize me from teaching 5th grade at Birmingham Falls for the past several years. I have been at BFES for 8 years, and I am so excited to take on this new role! I went to UGA and got a degree in Early Childhood Education. A few years later, I went back to school and recently graduated with a master’s degree in Instructional Technology… perfect timing with virtual instruction going on!  When I am not at school, I enjoy watching sports and spending time with my friends and family. I am a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves! I also love to read, travel, and try new restaurants and activities around town. I am looking forward to another great year at Birmingham Falls!

Picture Day will take place on Tuesday, October 27th, for all BFES Grades (face-to-face students). Make-up Picture Day will be on Tuesday, December 1st, from 1pm - 4:30pm.

NOTE: Remote students will have the opportunity to participate in picture day by selecting a time slot on Tuesday, December 1st, after dismissal.

Fulton County’s Student Code of Conduct

Parents, did you know each year parents and students are expected to review Code of Conduct issued by our district? A copy is available on the District Website which can be accessed using the link below. If you would like a paper copy, you may pick one up from BFES. Please complete and return the form within the link to Acknowledge Receipt of the electronic version of the 20-21 handbook.

English:  https://www3.fultonschools.org/codeconduct

Spanish:  https://www3.fultonschools.org/codeconduct/home/indexspa

This is a requirement of Fulton County. It ensures we all understand the behavioral expectations as outlined by our district. Please note:

  • The publicity release is now located in the FERPA section of the code. Parents, you are only required to “opt out” if that is your preference. If you are choosing to “opt out”, the process is the same as last year ~ which states that written documentation MUST be submitted to the school. Email Stefi Slewitzke at Slewitzke@fultonschools.org if you have any questions.

Our goal is to have 100% of our families signed off on the code of conduct by October 9th! Thanks for your support!
